Born in Vietnam; moved to Portland at 3. Graduated Madison HS; enlisted in Army in 1998 and joined the Nat’l Guard in 2001 with goal to become an officer. In 2005, received Non-Commissioned Officer of the Year award. Had close relationship with parents and siblings.
