The blanket we are sharing with you was one of many shipped to King Salmon, Alaska, during WWII (King Salmon was a big Air Force/Military Base during the Aleutian years), after the war surplus blankets and cots were dispersed to the local salmon canneries, which on occasion after decades of activity were abandoned, left with all their trimmings.

This blanket was recovered from Nakeen Cannery on the Kvichak River and thus began its flying career in the early 1970s, residing in Eddie Clark’s Piper Super Cub for over forty years as part of his mandatory survival kit. A security valiantly serving its purpose keeping the pilot dry and warm on the occasion of two plane crashes as well as taking part in many a picnic on the SW Alaskan tundra. An attachment has been formed with this tattered, worn, old blanket and it is our privilege to share its story and add a new chapter to its life.
