My father served in the U.S. Army for 21 years (1951–1972). He lived and served in several countries, including South Korea, where he met and married my Korean mother. This handsome grey wool blanket was one of many thousands that were issued by the Army to its soldiers. It has journeyed with my family from my childhood years in the 1960–70s to present, where I keep it tucked away in my laundry room. I occasionally come across it while searching for something and I think of my dad and my childhood, then put it away.
This opportunity to give it a new life and purpose at the U.S. Embassy in Pakistan seemed like a perfect way to memorialize this blanket and my father, and his time serving our great nation.
