This is the first piece in this series—prompted by the enveloping experience of light on horizons and the poetry of Joy Harjo (in particular her collection American Sunrise and more specifically the poem “Singing Everything”)—that has three jingle forms, instead of two. The two forms relate to my interest in twinning language, the history of call and response, and, in an Indigenous way, a call back to our ancestors and forward to future generations. In this evolution, I’ve been thinking about the Seneca and Haudenosaunee Three Sisters (Corn, Beans, and Squash) and the numerous associations with three as a magic number.
