Aunt Alpha’s Afghan. My mother-in-law, Gladys Covault, gave me this blanket. She was born in 1905 on a farm in Nebraska, USA. She and her three sisters; Opal, Mabel and Alpha were the family farmhands. They could hitch up a team of horses as well as cook, preserve food, and sew. They embroidered, crocheted, and knitted. When Gladys was 10 their mother died and their father soon remarried. The girls did not get along with their stepmother! Alpha made this blanket in the 1970s when she lived in Beatrice, Nebraska and owned a beauty parlor.
