Commissioned by Shelley Selim, Curator of Design & Contemporary Art at the Indianapolis Museum of Art at Newfields, for the exhibit Daughter/Mother/Ancestor: Tracing Lineage Through the Textile Arts, in 2023. The show “explore[d] how women artists employ textiles to honor their matrilineal ancestors. Featuring contemporary and historic artworks from the collection that span the globe—including new acquisitions from Gio Swaby, Ebony Patterson, and Mary Sibande—this exhibition highlights the ways that women preserve intergenerational skill-sharing and materialize maternal love through longstanding traditions in textile work.”
The piece is comprised of blankets sourced from the Indianapolis community, each with a story/reflection attached to it by its donor.
